Beef Lo Mein Recipe

12 March 2021

Lo mein is a traditional Chinese dish where egg noodles are stir-fried with an assortment of other ingredients, usually including various vegetables, meat or seafood and a mouth-watering sauce. Not to be confused with the equally popular chow mein, lo mein is not fried for as long, meaning the noodles remain soft, unlike the slightly crispier version you’ll find with chow mein. For many, beef lo mein is a classic go-to dish when ordering a Chinese takeaway, but it’s super simple to make at home too! You’re sure to cook up a new family favourite with our easy to follow recipe that brings delicious, authentic flavours right to your kitchen. Although our recipe uses beef, you can easily swap this out for a meat of your choice or substitute in more veggies if you don’t eat meat. You can find all of the ingredients you’ll need to prepare our beef lo mein recipe in our online Asian supermarket in the UK !

You Will Need

  • 1tsp sesame oil
  • 450g beef, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small broccoli, sliced
  • 230g lo mein noodles
  • 3 packs of Lee Kum Kee broccoli beef stir fry sauce

Note: Instead of making a sauce from scratch, we recommend using one of our beef stir-fry sauces to make things that bit easier!

Method

1. Once all your ingredients have been cut appropriately, heat the sesame oil in a wok and cook the beef. This won’t take long, so keep an eye on it until it is browned all over and then set aside. 2. Add the onions to the same wok and saute until golden. Add the garlic, carrots and broccoli and cook for around 3 minutes. 3. While the vegetables are cooking, prepare your noodles according to the packet’s instructions. 4. Add your cooked beef to the wok with the vegetables before adding your sauce packets. Mix to combine everything and simmer for a couple of minutes. 5. Finally, add your cooked and drained noodles to the wok, combining everything once again. Serve! Note: For convenience, you could also use frozen mixed veg instead of carrots and broccoli.
