Product of the Month - New Year Rice Cake
At OrientalMart, the product of January is New Year Rice Cake.
There are different styles rice cake (年糕) in China, it varies from area to area. Today, we are going to introduce the New Year rice cake, which is the most common in Guangdong. During the Chinese New Year, the Cantonese rice cake is often to be served in every traditional Cantonese family. It is not just simply because of the delicious taste but more importantly it symbolises having a better year. The Cantonese version rice cake is made by glutinous rice flour, rice flour, brown sugar and water. All you need to do is to slice the rice cake into mouthful size and sear it until it becomes crispy with a pan. To make it even yummier, you can add beaten eggs to the rice cake before you serve. If you are going to visit Chinese friends or family during Chinese New Year period (28 January to 11 February), rice cake will be ideal gift.
