Yum Nua Thai Beef Salad Recipe

What is Yum Nua?
This classic dish from Thailand is a go-to for many. It will usually involve grilled beef steak combined with cucumber, shallots, cherry tomatoes, mint and a dressing of fish sauce and lime juice.Yum nua has the perfect balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy tastes that is characteristic of Thai cuisine. Find our super easy recipe below to have a go at making this delicious salad at home, the perfect treat as we make our way into summer.
Thai Beef Salad Ingredients
- 10 ounces sirloin steak, sliced into 1/4-inch strips
- 1tbsp soy sauce
- 1tbsp fish sauce
- 1 large cucumber, sliced
- 100g cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
- 1 lemongrass stalk, thinly sliced
- 30g fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- 30g fresh coriander, finely chopped
- 1 lime to serve, cut into wedges
Thai Beef Salad Dressing
- 2tbsp fish sauce
- 2tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1tsp sugar
- 1 red chilli, minced
- Or use your favourite Asian-style salad dressing
How to Make Thai Beef Salad
- Season the beef with the soy sauce and let sit for 30 minutes.
- Heat cooked oil in a skillet over a medium-high heat and cook the steak on each side until it starts to brown.
- Prepare the dressing by combining the fish sauce, fresh lime juice, sugar and chilli in a bowl. You could also use a ready-made sauce or dressing of your choice.
- Put the prepared cucumber, tomatoes, shallot, lemongrass, mint and coriander into a large bowl and drizzle over half of the dressing, tossing to ensure everything is coated.
- When ready to serve, add the beef to the salad mix and drizzle over the remaining dressing with a wedge of lime for each serving.
This is the perfect recipe to enjoy again and again throughout the summer! You could also add romaine lettuce or Chinese leaves to make a bulkier salad.
