Easy 15 Minute Chinese Wonton Soup Recipe
While we love cooking creative recipes that focus on keeping things homemade, sometimes we need a simple recipe that can get us a delicious dish as quickly as possible. Perfect for those after work weekday meals or a quick lunchtime dish, this wonton soup makes use of our pre-made frozen wontons to keep things speedy without compromising on flavour! - Cooking Time: 15 minutes - Serves 4
You Will Need
- 1.5 litres chicken broth
- 20 frozen wontons (we love the Royal Gourmet Prawn Wontons)
- 100g shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 2 bok choy, halved and sliced lengthwise
- 8 thin slices of fresh ginger
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1tbsp soy sauce
- 1tsp sesame oil
- sliced spring onion for garnish
If you would rather keep things simpler, then you can also use our wonton soup base mix powder that can replace the chicken broth, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and sesame oil!
Method
- Put the chicken broth in a large pan and bring to the boil.
- Crush the sliced ginger a little and then add to the pot. Add in the garlic, cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes to draw out the flavours.
- Add the bok choy to the broth and simmer for 3 minutes.
- Add in the frozen wontons and shiitake mushrooms, bring the pot back to the boil and then simmer for a further 5 minutes until the wontons are cooked through and the bok choy is tender.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the sesame oil and soy sauce.
- Divide between four bowls and top with fresh spring onion slices.
Substitutions and Variations
If there are ingredients you don’t have or don’t like in this recipe, then you can substitute them. Instead of the bok choy, you could use bean sprouts or spinach to add some variations on the veggies. Different types of mushrooms could be used instead of shiitake, and if you don’t like mushrooms, then an alternate veg of your choice can be used!Instead of the prawn wontons, you could use frozen chicken wontons, or craft your own using wonton pastry and your choice of fillings. If you’d like the soup to be a little spicier, then you can sprinkle some red chilli oil into the soup for an extra hint of heat and flavour. Fancy creating this delicious dish at home?
