Taiwanese Meat Sauce With Noodles Recipe

Traditional Taiwanese Meat Sauce Recipes
Typically, a meat sauce like this is made with pork and is served with rice, which is known as lo bah png/rou zao fan. This recipe offers a slightly different twist, but you could certainly go for pork and rice rather than the beef and noodles with the same base flavours if you prefer. Chicken would also work well.
The below recipe serves two.
Taiwanese Meat Sauce With Noodles Recipe
- 250g Sau Tao knife cut noodles
- 250g minced beef
- 6 Chinese shiitake mushrooms
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 300ml broth
- 1 1/2 tbsp Lee Kum Kee premium light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Lee Kum Kee premium dark soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp five spice powder
- 1 tsp oil
- Sprinkle of white pepper
- Spring onions to garnish
How to Make Taiwanese Meat Sauce With Noodles
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Cook the beef for a few minutes until it starts to brown.
- Add the onion, garlic and mushroom and saute together for a few minutes.
- Stir in the broth, soy sauces, sugar and five spice powder. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook your noodles according to the packet’s instructions.
- When the sauce has cooked through and thickened, serve with your noodles and garnish with white pepper and spring onions.
