The Best Rice To Make Sushi

Most rice labelled as ‘sushi rice’ is short-grain Japonica rice. This type of rice has that essential stickiness and higher starch content that you don’t get with longer-grain rice. Even if a rice is not specifically labelled as being for sushi but is premium-grade short-grain rice, it will work well for sushi! 

While both sushi rice and glutinous rice have a sticky texture (and may sometimes be referred to as ‘sticky rice’), they are not the same thing. Glutinous rice is even stickier than sushi rice and is more typically used in desserts.
