What are Udon Noodles?

Udon noodles are made from wheat flour to give a thick, chewy noodle. The satisfying, somewhat slippery texture appeals to many as it provides a fuller experience, ideal for warming comfort food dishes.

You can get both packets of fresh Japanese udon noodles and dried noodles to suit whatever your recipe calls for – either option will offer a quick and easy cooking method, simply being boiled or added directly to a wok.

Like ramen or other Japanese noodles, plenty of toppings can be added to udon noodles for a delicious yet easily prepared meal.

Japanese Dishes with Udon Noodles

One of the most popular ways to enjoy udon noodles is in a dashi-based soup known as kitsune udon. Aside from being a hearty addition to soups and hot pots, you can also stir-fry udon noodles for a yaki udon dish.

Udon noodles are also used in cold dishes, making them an excellent ingredient for refreshing summer noodle salads.
